This Inspiring Lad Lost 280 Pounds, and Then Got a Good Job and a Girlfriend

This young man from Waterford, Ireland started gaining massive weight after he was unable to find a job. Eventually bulking up to well over 400 pounds, he soon realized he needed to turn his life around. Today, this lad is quite literally not even half the man he was!

Having lost two thirds of his previous weight, Dylan Condron, 21, has now found himself a job as well as a girlfriend. His amazing turnaround came about however, only after things became so bad he knew he had to do something about it.

After Dylan left school at age 16, he had been unable to find work, so he just sat around at home and ate… and ate. That’s when the weight started to pile on. By the age of 19, he weighed a shocking 460 pounds. He ate as a way to comfort himself, but then the weight only made things worse. Because of his morbid appearance, he started to shut himself in.

“I didn’t do anything, I just sat around and I just kept eating and eating,” said Dylan. “It was comfort eating, it was like a spiral – I eat, I put on weight and I eat more.

“I’d always eat crisps and bread and have dinner and then I would have a sandwich before I went to bed. I would have two toasties in the night before breakfast in the morning – a foot-long roll with fried chicken.

“Dinner could have been burger and chips or lasagne or maybe a takeaway. I stayed in my room all the time because I was afraid of what people would think of me. Deep down I knew I was dying.”

He added: “…I was 33 stone [462 pounds] and my blood pressure was going through the roof.

“I had pains in my head and my chest all the time – it was scary. I never myself having a career because I never went out but now there’s no limits to what I want to do.”

Dylan came to the realization of what he needed to do after he began to feel the effects of his horrifically unhealthy lifestyle. But it was not just about health; it was also about confidence, and happiness.

What was really the straw that broke the camel’s back for Dylan was when a neighbor bought him a t-shirt souvenir from her holidays that was size, 6XL, even yet, when he tried it on, embarrassingly it was still too tight. That was what got him fired up enough to kickstart his transformation.

With the help of his family, Dylan was able to hire a personal trainer for 3 months to help him start off on an exercise and diet program. He started to walk every day, and changed his diet from high carbs, to mostly protein, starting each day with 5 boiled eggs, soya vinegar, coconut oil and cod liver oil.

“I hated vegetables – I couldn’t bear them when I started and kept complaining about them,” Dylan said.

“With my family’s support I kept up the exercise and the new food regime and things began to work and I started to see a change. It was very difficult but I knew it was something I had to do so I kept going.

“The training part was easier than the food part.”

…And it has made a world of difference! Now at 21, Dylan has dropped an astounding 280 pounds, and is now a much healthier 180.

He has since found a good job as a chef, and scored a girlfriend, Amy Kelleher using the online dating App, Tinder. When she found out about his transformation, she expressed that she was proud.

“I met him after he lost all the weight and when I was looking back at the pictures it was hard to believe. I couldn’t put into words how proud I was of him,” Amy said.

“It’s crazy, even when you look at pictures of him when we first got together it was like he was still losing the weight. It’s definitely a good thing, I’m delighted for him.”

Although, he’s excelled by leaps and bounds from where he was, Dylan still has lot of excess skin due to his past obesity, and has started a GoFundMe page in the hopes of raising the $10,000 needed to undergo surgery.

Quite often, when we get into a bad cycle, and start feeling ill effects, that is telling us there is something we need to change inside ourselves—our habits, our vices—and that we need to kick things into high gear in order to break out of it. We applaud Dylan for conquering his own obstacle, and wish him the best in leading a confident, harmonious lifestyle in the future!
